Aixam Mega City 2+2

Aixam Mega City

AIXAM-MEGA is Europe's largest manufacturer of zero emissions ultra-light electric vehicles under the MEGA brand.

The Mega City drove the city leg of Revolve 2007 and will once again do the city leg of Eco-Rally 2009, Greenwich Sainsbury's to City Hall. The lead acid batteries can be recharged in 5-6hrs, giving enough juice for up to 40 miles, more than adequate for the majority of daily journeys.

Demand for pollution-free short run trips led to the development of the MEGA City car specifically for the London market.

Quadricycles and Safety – The Facts

To all intents and purposes, a quadricyle is a light car, which weighs less than 400kg. Quadricycles have been mainstream vehicles across Europe for over twenty years, with over 300,000 on the roads in most European countries.  In France, where quadricycles are most popular, the statistics show that quadricycles are three times less likely to be involved in an accident than conventional cars (source: The French National Interministerial Road Safety Observatory) and two times less likely to result in serious injuries (source: European Quadricycle Manufacturers and Importers Association).

The Mega City is a quadricycle and has been designed and built in France by Aixam Mega, Europe’s leading quadricycle manufacturer.  Aixam’s vehicles are voluntarily submitted to standard car crash tests, even though regulations do not require this.  Since 1998, Aixam has subjected all its models to head-on, side and rear collisions crash tests with absolute success.

Car occupant safety is only a small part of the road safety issue.  It’s a sobering fact that we are about four times more likely to be killed in London by the effects of traffic pollution than directly in a road traffic accident and
that we are about twenty times more likely to be killed by the effects of vehicles on London’s roads than by actually driving a car on London’s roads.

UK statistics suggest that a 4x4 driver is 25% more likely to be involved in a vehicle accident than the driver of a normal passenger car2. A pedestrian hit by a 4x4 is twice as likely to be killed than if hit by a standard car.

With an ongoing focus on environmental protection, AIXAM-MEGA runs research and development programmes that continuously further weight reduction, fuel consumption and recyclability. Already, AIXAM-MEGA'S vehicles are nearly 100% recyclable and have an average fleet CO2 emissions level that is significantly below the European Parliament's target levels for 2015.
