Boris Johnson is the current Mayor of London and has held shadow government posts as Vice Chairman, Shadow Minister for the Arts and Shadow Minister of Higher Education. He is an avid car enthusiast and a passionate cyclist - launching a London Cycle Hire Scheme (dubbed Boris bikes ) in the capital in 2010. Besides his work as a journalist, he has published several books, including 'Lend Me Your Ears, Friends, Voters and Countrymen', an autobiographical account of his experience of the 2001 election campaign, and a novel, ‘Seventy-Two Virgins’. He regularly appears on TV and has been a contestant on Have I Got News For You, which spawned his book: Have I Got Views For You .

The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, is pleased to be hosting at London's City Hall the 2009 Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership Conference, the 2009 WhatCar? Awards and the 2009 Revolve Eco-Rally as part of his wider commitment to promoting low carbon transport in the capital.
The Mayor has a target to cut carbon emissions in the capital by 60 per cent by 2025 helping to create 'green-collar' jobs in a thriving low carbon economy. There are a range of flagship initiatives underway to achieve this including: turning London into the electric car capital of Europe with 25,000 charging points by 2015; adding 1,000 electric vehicles to the Greater London Authority group fleet, a hybrid bus fleet by 2012 and trialling low carbon technology in London's taxi fleet.
