Clean Air Power has pioneered the move towards using natural gas to power vehicles by developing Dual-Fuel™ technologies that guarantee diesel engine performance, with significant cost savings and low carbon emissions.

At 30g CO2 per passenger kilometre the express coach is the most carbon efficient form of motorised transport resulting in less than a quarter of the emissions per passenger than equivalent journey by car. Average number of people in a car is just 1.58, compared to 32 on a coach. Congestion dramatically increases CO2 emissions from road vehicles. Under heavily congested conditions tail pipe emissions can be increased by as much as 3 or 4 times. Click here to compare CO2 emissions from different modes of transport over various journeys.

This heavy-duty diesel lorry utilises Clean Air Power’s Dual-Fuel technology to deliver significant greenhouse gas emission reductions and fuel cost savings compared with standard diesel engines. These Dual-Fuel trucks are around 30% more energy efficient than equivalent spark ignited natural gas engines. The engines can use natural- or bio-gas as the main fuel and can also operate on only diesel, an important feature as gas distribution systems face many years of development.

In the UK, a typical truck operator can save around £15,000 a year from retrofitting Dual-Fuel technology which represents a payback on investment of around two years. Volvo is opening a production line for Euro V compliant engines incorporating this technology - they can run on either compressed (CNG) or liquid natural gas (LNG).

The 2011 Bridgestone Eco-Rally convoy includes a Stagecoach double-decker bus with cutting-edge electric hybrid technology. The hybrids are smoother for passengers, quieter for pedestrians and emit ~30% less carbon, particulates and NOx than a standard vehicle. They operate at Park & Rides and on some of the busiest city centre routes. By switching just one journey in twenty-five we can remove 1 billion car journeys from our roads, and avoid 2 million tonnes of CO2. In addition, new research proves that taking the bus rather than the car can reduce mental stress by a third.

Volvo is latin for "I roll...". Volvo was born in 1927, when the first car ÖV4, nicknamed 'Jakob', left the factory in Gothenburg. Vehicle safety is Volvo Cars' most important asset. The goal is to protect all people in traffic situations including the driver, passengers and pedestrians. Volvo Cars works to lower climate impact through efficiency, alternative fuels and hybrid technologies.

The AA

Chronic congestion has reached record levels in some cities. The AA - UK's biggest breakdown organisation - now uses the motorbikes and electric scooters to cut through traffic and reach breakdowns in central London up to 33% quicker, getting members and other traffic moving again with minimum delay.

Simon Fisher, one of dedicated AA bike repair and recovery patrols, says:
