The VOSA team's reaction after discovering their own Honda Civic Hybrid (shared pool-car) had won the exhaust-emissions part of the Eco-Rally competition.

An exciting nationwide design competition to find fun new ways to travel has been announced by Fiat Group Automobiles UK, starting today.
The contest, called the Smiles Per Hour Design Competition, is a UK-wide search for budding inventors of tomorrow to create interesting and amusing ways to enjoy a journey. And there's a £50,000 top prize for the best submission.
Our panel of expert judges used the e-factor: energy, efficiency & enthusiasm to decide on the greenest vehicles and drivers. Exhaust emissions were measured by VOSA and the driver's skill was tested in the eco-driving simulator provided by the Energy Saving Trust.
Just opposite the fish & chips along Madeira Drive, Paul Johanssen really entered into the spirit of the Brighton to London Eco-Rally by filling his diesel-engined Lupo on cooking oil. He was awarded the affordability prize (Navman S90i satnav) for demonstrating one of the easiest and cheapest way to avoid fossil fuels.
In total 25 Navman satnavs are up for grabs.
