They searched for an urban vehicle that was stylish, inexpensive, and most importantly C-Free!In the Mercedes Smart fortwo, they thought they had found the perfect C-Free urban car. But to their surprise, it wasn’t C-Free! They thought ‘Well if we can’t buy a C-Free Smart Car, Let’s make one.

Detail

Over the next 12 months, and with the help of the best minds in low-emissions and environmentally friendly motoring across Europe, the newly developed C-Free LPG Smart Car prototype exceeded UK Government Transport Energy PowerShift requirements for a low emission, cleaner fuel vehicle, and was accepted to the PowerShift Register with full approval.

About LPG

There are over 9 million LPG vehicles worldwide and well over 100,000 on the road in the UK. Although larger commercial vehicles typically run on LPG alone, the vast majority of cars and vans using LPG are bi-fuel vehicles which can also use petrol.

In fact almost any petrol engine can be modified to run on Autogas. Some major automobile manufacturers now include new bi-fuel vehicles on their pricelists.

The loss of performance is normally 5% of bhp on LPG, which is negligible as the small wheels and light weight of the car means you'll still have plenty of acceleration in the city and a top speed in excess of the speed limit.

About The Smart ForTwo

The smart car (Swatch Mercedes Art) is the brainchild of Nicolas Hayek, better known as CEO of Swatch, the watch company. Hayek's dream was the Swatchmobile, which would do for the small car what he had done for the watch, producing a car that would be fun, cheap and simple yet environmentally sound. Like the Swatch watch, the body panels — made of recycled plastic — can be removed and swapped with fellow Smart car owners.

In 1998, Swatch pulled out and MCC became a wholly owned subsidiary of Daimler-Benz, now DaimlerChrysler, the parent company of Mercedes-Benz.
