Prof Gary Acres OBE, CEng, FIChemE
Since 2000, Gary has been a Royal Academy of Engineering Visiting Professor on Sustainable Development at the University of Birmingham. Awards include the Queen's Award for Technology and the MacRobert Award for the development of automobile emission control catalyst systems.
He participated in the UK fuel cell programme in the 1960's followed by American and Japanese developments beginning in the 1970's. Chairman of the Grove Fuel Cell Symposium established in 1989 and the first Chairman of the European Fuel Cell Group established in 1990.
Gary retired from full time employment with Johnson Matthey in 1994 where he was the Director responsible for R&D. Since then he has held a number of advisory roles and is currently a Consultant on fuel cell and related activities.
