Gasrec Biomethane Lotus Sports Car

Product image

Complete with artwork designed by RCA students, the specially-built Lotus is designed to draw attention to Gasrec Blue biogas fuel. The 1.8l, 4 cylinder engine may be 60% quieter than a normal petrol-powered Elise, but it still growls like a sports car, just with a much smaller ecological footprint.

“The bright yellow upper surfaces and darker green/grey lower surfaces are an inverted version of Lotus’s traditional colours. The blend from grey to green along the length of the car is a visual representation of the vehicle ‘cleaning the air’ as it moves."
- Ceri Yorath, RCA Vehicle Design student

Like the Lotus Exige Tri-fuel, this sports car can run on a form of methane. However, the one-of-a-kind Gasrec S1 Elise actually uses biomethane, which is derived from landfill sites.

At the end of the Eco-Rally, the Lotus parked up next to the other Gasrec vehicle on show: a recycling truck that actually runs on rubbish!
