Happy National Oil Check Week!

Over half of cars are running low on oil, with one in five dangerously low. Hence the need for a dedicated national road-show promoting basic car maintenance tasks like checking the oil - coming to a shopping centre near you.

We’re far too reliant on technology and we’ve allowed ourselves to become far too lazy. Vehicle maintenance is an essential part of being a responsible motorist.
-Mike Bewsey, Comma Oil

According to Comma, the average repair bill for an engine damaged by low oil levels is £1,413. Mr Bewsey said motorists should not think of the oil light in the same way as the fuel light. If the oil signal comes on, your car is in "desperate" need of attention, he added.

For most of us, product maintenance now means things like checking the battery-level on our electrically-powered gadgets. Perhaps maintaining mechanical engines are just too much hassle. This would help to explain why one in five of us would now consider switching to an electric vehicle within the next five years. If you're put off by the up-front costs and availability, "pay-as-you-go" car-share clubs are already starting to stock electric vehicles in their fleets.
