About the People

Joanna Yarrow is one of the UK’s leading experts in sustainable living. Having grown up in a Sussex wood she knows all about the traditional ‘Good Life’, but doesn’t want to go back to peeing on the compost heap. So she specialises in making green living attractive and accessible to broad audiences through a combination of broadcasting, writing and consulting.

Joanna is a founder of sustainability company Beyond Green, which provides advice to clients ranging from the Olympics to Audi and the Premier League, as well as designing and developing sustainable communities. She presented BBC3’s Outrageous Wasters and is GMTV’s green expert. She regularly appears on lifestyles and current affairs programmes including Five News and Tonight With Trevor McDonald.

Joanna is the author of 1001 Ways You Can Save the Planet, How to Reduce Your Carbon Footprint and 'Eco-Logical'. She fronts consumer behaviour-change campaigns, and is often featured in the print media.

She regularly hosts, chairs and speaks at conferences and events, for example:

  • Host and speaker for 2008 BBC Summer Festival’s green stage
  • Host of the 2008 Great Place to Work Awards
  • Host of the 2008 Ethics Awards
  • Panelist at the 2008 PAWS European sustainability TV awards
  • Keynote speaker at the World Eco2008 Conference, Brazil
  • Keynote speaker at the 2008 Cleaner Greener Manchester Challenge
  • Host of a series of green clinics at the 2009 Ideal Home Show

In July 2008 Joanna received an honorary doctorate from Staffordshire University in recognition of her work on sustainability and climate change.
