London Assembly makes pledges for World Environment Day
Members of the London Assembly Environment Committee have pledged to make changes to the way they live ahead of this year’s World Environment Day.
Each Committee Member has promised to reduce their carbon footprint by making little changes to their routines at home, how they travel and their actions at work.
World Environment Day takes place on Friday, 5 June 2009. This year’s theme is Your planet needs you! UNite to Combat Climate Change.
Murad Qureshi AM, Chair of the Environment Committee, said: “World Environment Day is about everyone doing their part to protect the planet by using less and acting more. The smallest changes can make a big difference and we are hoping that Londoners will be inspired to make pledges too.”
So far, three of the London Assembly members have been guests at our Eco-Rallies which commemorate World Environment Day. Their pledges include:
- James Cleverly – Give a home to birds by putting up a nesting box.
- Nicky Gavron – Replace all light bulbs in her home with energy saving bulbs.
