Our panel of expert judges used the e-factor: energy, efficiency & enthusiasm to decide on the greenest vehicles and drivers. Exhaust emissions were measured by VOSA and the driver's skill was tested in the eco-driving simulator provided by the Energy Saving Trust.

Out of all the hybrids in the eco-rally, VOSA's Honda Civic Hybrid measured the lowest overall tailpipe emissions. This was mostly down to the fact that it is a well-used pool car [everyone wants to drive a hybrid] whereas the City Car Club entrants and Jemca Toyota's Prius were all brand new. The VOSA team are passionate about pollution-prevention and were awarded the People's Choice Award.

Between them, the five winning entries ticked off almost every requirement for a lean green machine: convenience, affordability, performance, desirability, climate change mitigation and even traffic-reduction. EST spared none of their energy in helping visitors to drive smarter and save money and were awarded the best exhibitor prize.

The People's Eco-Rally 2008

At the height of the fuel protests and the heated debate about food vs fuel, Revolve set British motorists a challenge: Drive from Brighton to London in the greenest way you can. The destination was a music festival on Clapham Common, where the drivers were tested for eco-driving skills whilst their cars were tested for emissions. The winners each received a Navman Satnav and shared their green-driving knowledge with the assembled crowd. | More videos
