Quentin Willson Joins ITM Power's Eco-Rally Team!

Sheffield’s ITM Power is putting finishing touches on its entry for the 2010 Eco-Rally from Brighton to London on 7 July 2010. The Energy Storage: Clean Fuel company, which employs 56 people in Sheffield on its sites at Atlas Way and Sheffield Airport Business Park, has high hopes for its specially adapted Ford Focus which is fuelled on Green Hydrogen, that can be produced anywhere using only water and renewable electricity with ITM’s world beating electrolyser technology.

This year the driving team includes Quentin Willson who visited ITM Power to oversee preparations and to refuel the car himself. Quentin Willson said:

“Sheffield was the crucible of the carbon industrial revolution. It can now be the centre of a low carbon revolution that has even more impact on the world. There’s green technology in Sheffield that’s world class and cutting edge. Sheffield needs as much help and support available to become a world leader again’

Leading Motor Industry Commentator calls for Government Backing for Hydrogen. As the government decides the toughest spending round for a generation, motoring expert Quentin Willson has called for tax breaks for hydrogen and says we should have spent the money used to bail out Northern Rock on a hydrogen infrastructure for the UK.

We need incentives from Europe and our government to create a hydrogen transport industry in the UK. We could be world leader at this, selling the technology everywhere, but we need a clear message that this government will back clean hydrogen transport 100%. They also need to understand that building a new green economy will pull this country out of the current recession faster than anything else.

ITM Power has developed a range of materials and technology to reduce the cost of hydrogen production. The company has developed equipment to convert renewable energy to a clean fuel; storing the energy as green hydrogen for decarbonising transport, industrial and residential applications.
