Robert Llewellyn's electric Mitsubishi iMiEV at Eco-Rally 2010
The multi award-winning i-MiEV is the first 4-seater electric car (from a major motor manufacturer) available in the UK. It's on sale now from £23,990 with the plug-in car grant. During year-long trials, Quentin Willson regularly chooses the loaned i-MiEV over his AMG Merc etc. Robert Llewellyn has also been trialling the car and was keen to show it off to The Guardian's Lucy Siegle at the Eco-Rally.
Unfortunately, in the second leg of the rally, Robert failed to warn EV journalist Nikki Gordon-Bloomfield about the immobilser! Nikki switched the i-MiEV off at the checkpoint just before the finish line and ended up calling the AA support team for assistance.
The i-MiEV is easy to charge by using a rapid charger system or a standard 13A 240V mains supply. Thanks to the rear-midship layout the battery pack is located under the floor, leaving ample cabin space for four adult passengers plus reasonable luggage compartment space in the rear.
Having the first mass produced fully electric vehicle in the UK market puts us at the forefront of a new era in the automotive industry. We are delighted that the i-MiEV has met the high level of criteria required to qualify for the Plugged In Car Grant. We know from the orders that we have already received that the i-MiEV will appeal to a wide cross-section of private individuals and business users.
