Reducing Packaging Waste
Since 2007, Amazon has made significant progress to reduce excess packaging in its deliveries to customers and has introduced additional types of recyclable packing materials to protect items while in transit.
- Amazon Frustration-Free Packaging eliminates hard plastic "clamshell" cases and those annoying plastic-coated wire ties.
- Most UK orders are shipped in 100% post-consumer recycled, lightweight containers which are 100% recyclable.
- The air-filled pillows used to protect items are also 100% recyclable and non-toxic. Deflated air cushions take up less than 1% of their inflated volume.
- Amazon uses special software to determine the "right-sized" box - significantly reducing packaging waste and transportation costs.
- Many larger-sized packages are sent without any additional packaging
- Customers can provide direct feedback on the packaging and upload images of their Amazon.co.uk packages to continually improve the process.
