SSE is currently constructing one of the world's largest offshore wind farms at Greater Gabbard in the North Sea, in a joint venture with RWE npower renewables.
The project will cost approximately £1.3 billion. The wind farm, approximately 25 kilometres off the coast of Suffolk, will consist of 140 wind turbines and, when fully operational in 2012, will provide enough clean electricity to power around 530,000 homes.

We are actively using electric vehicles in our Southern Electric fleet and have trialled the use of both LPG and Compressed Natural Gas. We have also measured significant benefits from electronically limiting speeds, the procurement of Smart cars and using tyres that are proven to be both fuel-efficient and long-lasting.
