In late 2010, the Mayor of Barcelona announced his vision for the city centre to become CO2 and emissions free within four years. A joint project was formed under Cluster Moto with support from the Catalan administration and in collaboration with Barca University. The result is the MIUS electric scooter by Rieju - an alternative for individual lightweight transport. The Rieju MIUS (pronounced 'my us') is one of the most efficient, functional and green urban scooters available for personal or fleet use.
ITM Power’s Transportable Hydrogen Refuelling Station (HFuel) is a self-contained module suitable for refuelling hydrogen-powered road vehicles and forklift trucks. HFuel is well suited to small fleet and early ‘hydrogen highway’ applications of both fuel cell and hydrogen engine vehicles (FCV and HICEV). It is based around a modular platform (standard freight containers) and can be expanded at any point after the initial installation enabling a staged roll-out of hydrogen fuel.
The Energy Saving Trust (EST) provides a range of resources to help your organisation reduce carbon dioxide emissions. EST is working with partners to deliver the Plugged in Fleets Initiative. 20 organisations across the country will receive tailored strategic plans on how they can incorporate EVs into their fleets.
As an eco designer it won’t come as a surprise that I'm no petrol head motoring journalist but I have had the chance to drive a number of pure electric cars over the years - many with varying degrees of success and just a little anxiety.
The 2012 Eco-Rally logistics team will be using Zipcars and Zipvans for all essential rally support and representatives from Zipcar will be on hand at the start and finish lines to answer any queries. Joining a car club means having means saving money and emissions. A typical Zipcar member saves £3,162 per year vs. owning their own vehicle.
The Renault Twizy delivers all the fundamentals associated with a car, namely four wheels, a steering wheel and pedals, plus an enveloping body for two occupants sitting in tandem, one behind the other. The ultra-compact footprint of the electric Renault Twizy is ideally suited to city motoring. It is now on sale in the UK with a price tag beginning at £6,990. Monthly battery lease cost will be £40 based on a 36 month, 4,500 miiles per year agreement - equivalent to £480 a year.
The fully-electric Mia U (urban transporter) van is short and nimble on the outside but incredibly spacious inside with 1,500 litres cargo volume and 350 kg payload. The central driving position and sliding doors facilitate getting in and out of ether side easily, especially in tight parking spots. Like the family mia L, it is 3.19 m long and its tight turning circle gives it a clear edge in those narrow city streets. Mia is also developing a range-extended version using a fuel cell to increase range by around 100 miles.
