200km/h top-speed. Range of 400km on a single charge. Just 6hrs to re-charge using a normal socket. This student-built car has been tried and tested all the way from Alaska to Argentina. The epic road trip was aimed at shattering the public perception of electric vehicles as slow, unattractive and of limited range. Is there a more perfect challenge than tackling the longest road on the planet in our electric supercar? The adventure is available on a DVD filmed and directed by the maker of the the 'Long Way Round' series.

As an eco designer it won’t come as a surprise that I'm no petrol head motoring journalist but I have had the chance to drive a number of pure electric cars over the years - many with varying degrees of success and just a little anxiety.

The 2012 Eco-Rally logistics team will be using Zipcars and Zipvans for all essential rally support and representatives from Zipcar will be on hand at the start and finish lines to answer any queries. Joining a car club means having means saving money and emissions. A typical Zipcar member saves £3,162 per year vs. owning their own vehicle.

Electric Vehicle owners living within the M25 are offered free home charging units worth over £1,000 if they take part in the Low Carbon London electric vehicle usage trial, exclusively offered through a partnership between POD Point and UK Power Networks.

The ultra-compact footprint of the electric Renault Twizy is ideally suited to city motoring. It is now on sale in the UK with a price tag beginning at £6,990. Monthly battery lease cost will be £40 based on a 36 month, 4,500 miiles per year agreement - equivalent to £480 a year.
