Tata's new electric car does Brighton to London Eco-Rally
Fresh from the Geneva Motor Show, the Indica Vista EV offers the real practicality of a small family hatchback, with the benefits of a highly efficient all electric drivetrain. 25 of these vehicles have been built in the UK and are taking part in the CABLED demonstration programme, commencing June 2010. When it hits the showrooms, the Tata Vista EV will be an incredibly affordable and capable electric car with all the features you expect from a small family hatchback.
Charging
The Indica Vista EV can be fully charged from a domestic 3-pin plug in around 8 hours and topped-up or “opportunity charged” at any time. Off-peak, a full charge will cost less than £1.50 (€1.68) and could take you and your family for a trip between London & Brighton at motorway speeds with no need for "range anxiety". Storage is provided for the charge cable under the front passenger seat. In the future, charge times will be reduced to around 30 minutes through the introduction of fast charging technology
Environmental Benefits
The Indica Vista EV emits zero CO2 – saving around 130 g/km over similar sized conventional petrol vehicles. Taking into account the emissions from coal-fired electricity generation, the CO2 generated by the Indica Vista EV is still only around 50% of that from a similar conventional vehicle. When powered by electricity generated from purely renewable sources, the Indica Vista EV is a truly zero emission vehicle.
Award-winning
An aerodynamically-enhanced version of the Indica EV won two awards at the RAC Brighton to London Future Car Challenge in the Most Economical & Most Environment Friendly Small Passenger EV categories.
