Patrick Holden was brought up in London, but at the age of five he visited a dairy farm near Epping and decided he wanted to milk cows. He studied biodynamic agriculture and started a community farm in West Wales in 1973. The 93 hectare mixed organic farm is now the longest established organic dairy farm in Wales. Patrick still milks his cows at weekends.

Bronze Portrait of Patrick HoldenPatrick has worked for the Soil Association since 1988 and as Director since 1995. During that period income has risen from £200,000 to £10 million and sales of organic food from £50 million to £2 billion.

Holden is also an astute networker, and has become a close friend of Prince Charles, who, as a result, is an arch pro organic believer. Prince Charles even has a bust of Holden in his garden at Highgrove in Gloucestershire.

He is a regular broadcaster, speaker and writer, and was responsible for Tony and Pat Archer's conversion in 1985 and still advises for The Archers

Christopher Maltin serves as the UK’s representative on the Bioenergy Committee of the International Energy Agency. In the 1970's, his pioneering and highly successful work on lead-free fuel systems for high performance engines led to an interest in methane gas as a 'clean' fuel for vehicles. Christopher is now recognised as one of the foremost experts in the anaerobic processing of renewable organic materials to produce energy. Christopher is founder, chairman and a director of Organic Power Holdings Ltd, which developed the universally patented Maltin® System of anaerobic digestion.

About the Organisation

Organic Power was formed in 1997 to market and develop the technology known as the Maltin® System. The Maltin® System is a simple but very effective waste treatment system based on a series of low energy tanks in lagoons reverses environmental pollution and produces renewable fuel for heating or cooling, or to power vehicles, or make electricity.
