Auto-Stop-Start
What if your engine automatically switched off when idling for 10 seconds or more... and automatically started again when you put your foot down... Saving fuel and improving air-quality, especially in cities...
What Car?'s judges praised the S40 DRIVe's unique combination of low emissions (104g/km CO2), fuel efficiency (72.4 mpg combined), practicality, safety and driver enjoyment.
Leading geophysicists predict that peak-oil is either currently occurring, or will have occurred by 2015. Meanwhile, demand for oil continues to increase at an extraordinary rate, with increasingly negative social and ecological consequences. Are you ready to switch?
The Peugeot 3008 Crossover, with HYbrid4 technology, is the first diesel-electric ‘Full Hybrid’ production car in the world. Peugeot believe the combination of a powerful yet fuel efficient diesel engine and electric motor is the optimal combination for a hybrid vehicle. Unlike previous hybrid vehicles which have chosen to use a less fuel efficient petrol engine, the HYbrid4’s diesel engine provides a Combined Drive Cycle fuel consumption of 74mpg, and as little as 99g/km CO2. Drivers can switch between four different operating modes; Auto, electric-only, 4wd and Sport Silent.
Peugeot’s designers started with three words to define the new 208: ”agile, sensuous and athletic”. Architectural regeneration and efficiency was a key target for the 208 and the Active HDi 70 has a diesel engine which utilises micro-hybrid technology, aerodynamics and lightweight materials to reduce CO2 emissions to just 87g/km. Petrol versions are only slightly higher: 99 – 135g/km). The brand new model has already won the coveted Auto Express Award for Best Supermini.
The new Focus ECOnetic establishes a new industry benchmark for fuel efficiency in the popular compact class. A host of advanced technologies - including active aerodynamics auto-start-stop & smart regenerative charging - make it more fuel efficient than any other compact vehicle on the road in Europe, including diesel, petrol and hybrid powered vehicles.
The following guide explains the visions, aims and principles of the various behaviour changes and propulsion technologies currently being developed to reduce our dependance on fossil fuels, cut congestion and reduce emissions in the hope of a better quality of life.
The 2012 Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership Annual Conference, sponsored by Michelin, will take place at ExCel, London Docklands on Thursday 10 May.

The 2011 Bridgestone Eco-Rally convoy includes a Stagecoach double-decker bus with cutting-edge electric hybrid technology. The hybrids are smoother for passengers, quieter for pedestrians and emit ~30% less carbon, particulates and NOx than a standard vehicle. They operate at Park & Rides and on some of the busiest city centre routes. By switching just one journey in twenty-five we can remove 1 billion car journeys from our roads, and avoid 2 million tonnes of CO2. In addition, new research proves that taking the bus rather than the car can reduce mental stress by a third.
