What if we could cut costs and emissions without necessarily having to buy a new car...
As the world's largest tyre company, Bridgestone is committed to reducing the impact of motoring and to helping ensure a healthy environment for current and future generations.
The 2012 Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership Annual Conference, sponsored by Michelin, will take place at ExCel, London Docklands on Thursday 10 May.
Electric and plug-in hybrid vans are now eligible for a government grant, which will be available to both private and business buyers across the UK. The scheme will be similar to the plug-in car grant, but with a lower percentage discount from the list price (20%) and a higher maximum grant (£8,000).
From the development of the first city coupe model, the smart brand (Swatch Mercedes Art) has always been pursuing out-of-the-ordinary approaches. A primary characteristic was a courageous design which integrated structural elements such the Tridion safety cell as a significant part of automotive styling in a self-assured manner.
Leading geophysicists predict that peak-oil is either currently occuring, or will have occured by 2015. Meanwhile, demand for oil continues to increase at an extraordinairy rate, with increasingly negative social and ecological consequences. Are you ready to switch?
There are certainly fast green cars out there, as we recently proved in our mini 'green grand prix' at Silverstone. However, energy efficiency is greatly reduced when travelling in excess of 70mph and this is one of the main reasons why 'eco-friendly' cars are generally 'not that fast'. A top speed of over 70mph is largely irrelevant anyway as there are few places in the world where it's actually legal to drive that fast. Despite this, we can't help but fantasize about super-fast cars and it's often used as a very effective selling point.
Here at eco-rally.org, we do publish the top speed for every vehicle that has appeared in our events, but we also publish the more useful 'average city speed', i.e. how fast you can accelerate to the speed-limit and maintain it whilst zipping through congested traffic. This is where small, lightweight electric cars and bikes tend to excel. Registered users can compare all green vehicle stats here: http://www.eco-rally.org/compare.
The 2011 Bridgestone Eco-Rally convoy includes a Stagecoach double-decker bus with cutting-edge electric hybrid technology. The hybrids are smoother for passengers, quieter for pedestrians and emit ~30% less carbon, particulates and NOx than a standard vehicle. They operate at Park & Rides and on some of the busiest city centre routes.
The Volvo C30 Electric has now left the product development stage. Initial deliveries to leasing customers, mainly companies, authorities and governmental bodies, will take place immediately after the summer.
