Fuel cells

Fuel cell diagram

What if our cars were powered by hydrogen - the most abundant element in the universe, and water was the only emission.... What if this fuel was made from water and 'green electricity' at the point of use... What if we could suck out CO2 from the atmosphere and combine it with hydrogen to power direct methanol fuel cells...

Leading geophysicists predict that peak-oil is either currently occurring, or will have occurred by 2015. Meanwhile, demand for oil continues to increase at an extraordinary rate, with increasingly negative social and ecological consequences. Are you ready to switch?

By using ITM Power’s electrolyser technology to produce hydrogen, future cars like Hyundai's highly-advanced Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle Demonstrator could be re-fuelled anywhere at an affordable price, using only water and renewable electricity. The Hyundai FCEV ix35 (Tucson body) will be on show at the Investing in Future Transport Conference, City Hall, 16 August 2012.

The Burgman Fuel Cell scooter has gained Whole Vehicle Type Approval in the European Union – becoming the world’s first fuel cell vehicle to gain approval for safe use on public roads without having to be inspected and tested individually. This new approval meets standards for safety and performance, representing a milestone in making environmentally-friendly, zero-emissions transportation commercially available for the public.

The scooter is equipped with the latest version of Intelligent Energy’s unique and proprietary air-cooled, clean fuel cell power systems and is fuelled from a cylinder of hydrogen, which can be re-fuelled in a few minutes and gives a riding range of 350km comparable to a conventional Burgman scooter.

The project to deliver a fleet of the zero emission taxis to the streets of London in time for the 2012 Olympics is on track, with the first Fuel Cell Black Cabs covering a combined total of over 8,000 miles in road and test track testing conditions. The 2011 Bridgestone Eco-Rally will be another milestone in the high profile zero emission trial. The taxi is designed to excel in rush-hour traffic, with smooth and responsive acceleration provided by the fuel cell and electric motors.
