The UK's first solar-powered ferry

Product image

This is the only motorised ferry allowed across the historic and ecologically sensitive Serpentine. Two silent electric motors make this boat easy to handle and allow it to turn on a point. The Solar Shuttle will eliminate the production of 2900lbs of CO2 per year compared with a conventional diesel boat of similar size.

The new Isis sculpture overlooking the Serpentine
At the end of the Eco-Rally, the organisers - Revolve - will toast the VIP drivers and sponsors on a relaxing cruise aboard the Solar Shuttle. The trip will include an insight into solar energy and a view of the newly unveiled Isis sculpture. Isis was comissioned to highlight the new environmental education centre (The Look Out) being built in the park. Selected Eco-Rally vehicles will be at the nearby car park, allowing for low-emission test drives around Hyde Park.

Toyota is one company that is exploring solar-powered water transport on a massive scale, with their part solar-powered cargo ship.
