Westminster Car Club Vauxhall Ampera
Westminster City Council has partnered with Zipcar to give members access to shared cars parked across the city. Each Westminster Car Club vehicle aims to remove 15-20 privately-owned vehicles from the road, meaning less emissions and less parked cars. Member benefits include free fuel, free insurance and no congestion charge. There is an extensive range to choose from including the new Vauxhall Ampera. As most trips taken by Zipcar members are under 35 miles they could be completely free from tail-pipe emissions.
Mark Walker, general manager of Zipcar UK, said in a statement that Ampera heralded a "step change in the evolution of electric vehicles in London."
"On any given day, Zipcar members can be doing multiple short trips using only the stored electric battery power or longer trips powered by electricity generated by the on board range extender," he added. "For the first time in an electric vehicle, members need not worry about range or recharging".
All Westminster Car Club members are entitled to one hour's free parking each time they park in any on-street paid for bay in Westminster. An initial payment for parking must be made before the free hour is granted. This can be for as little as one minute.
